Toyota develops new lightweight polypropylene compound for EV battery housings

Toyota has introduced a polypropylene-based compound designed for electric vehicle battery housings.

The Japanese automaker announced a new PP compound reinforced with glass fibers, offering 25% weight reduction compared to aluminum while maintaining excellent flame retardancy. This innovation supports the global shift toward EVs, reducing overall car weight and improving energy efficiency. Production is expected to start in late 2026.
