Mercedes-Benz has announced a new family of polypropylene compounds containing up to 50% recycled material, designed for use in structural and interior components of future electric vehicles.
In its ongoing sustainability strategy, Mercedes-Benz AG unveiled a new line of recycled PP compounds engineered for EV applications. Developed in collaboration with major European compounders, the materials integrate post-industrial and post-consumer recyclates, maintaining high performance and aesthetic quality. These PP grades will be used in door panels, underbody shields, and battery casings for the upcoming EQ series. Mercedes-Benz aims to reduce lifecycle CO₂ emissions per vehicle by 40% compared to 2020 levels, aligning with its Ambition 2039 climate-neutral strategy. The project also includes blockchain-based traceability of the recycled polymers used, ensuring complete transparency across the supply chain.
