The European plastics sector is warning that a lack of timely EU action on recycling and competitiveness could lead to a wave of factory closures across the continent.
According to a recent report by Reuters, major European plastics manufacturers have voiced concerns over the growing impact of energy costs, delayed recycling legislation, and the tightening of emissions rules. Industry associations warn that if the European Commission does not adjust the upcoming Circular Economy and ETS frameworks, hundreds of companies could be forced to halt production or relocate outside the EU. The European Plastics Converters (EuPC) called for a pragmatic approach that safeguards industrial jobs while maintaining climate ambitions.
