Hungary: Recycling Plant Expands Operations with EU Funding
2025.10.20 - 13:20
Hungarian recycler ReMat Zrt. is expanding its recycling operations with the support of a €18 million EU Cohesion Fund investment aimed at modernizing washing and regranulation lines and boosting the country’s circular economy capacity.
Hungary strengthens its position as a regional hub for plastic recycling following a major investment by ReMat Zrt., one of Central Europe’s largest recyclers of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP).

The company announced the completion of a new expansion project co-financed through the EU Cohesion Fund, with a total value of €18 million. The project includes the installation of state-of-the-art NIR sorting technology, new high-efficiency washing and regranulation lines, and the creation of over 70 new jobs.

ReMat’s upgraded facility is expected to increase its recycling capacity by 35%, providing high-quality rPP and rPE granules that meet EU traceability and quality standards under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

According to company representatives, this expansion will also reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 12,000 tonnes per year, supporting Hungary’s contribution to the EU’s Green Deal objectives and the transition to a fully circular plastics economy.
