Italy reaches a 58% recycling rate for plastic packaging
2025.10.04 - 18:57
According to the 2025 Corepla report, Italy has achieved a 58% recycling rate for plastic packaging, surpassing the EU average of 45%. This milestone reflects continuous investments in infrastructure and advanced sorting technologies.
Corepla, Italy’s national consortium for plastic packaging recycling, has released its 2025 annual report showing a record-high recycling rate of 58%, compared to the European Union average of 45%.
The remarkable progress results from extensive public-private collaboration, improved selective collection systems, and significant investments in automated sorting and washing plants across the country.
Italy’s model demonstrates that circular economy goals can be achieved through coordinated policy, education, and innovation.
Corepla officials emphasized that further improvements are expected as chemical recycling projects become operational and as EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) mechanisms continue to mature.
The Italian experience could serve as a benchmark for other EU countries aiming to align with upcoming recycling targets for 2030.
